Summer is officially here and your family is planning on some fun. Don’t let the splish splash and sunshine stop your child from sharing his or her ideas at the beach, pool, or even under the sprinkler.
It can be hard to see a touch screen in the sun and we know most can’t get wet, so what’s a family to do? How about bringing along some light tech communication tools.
For the pool, we use a variety of strategies including swim tees for communication partners to wear, communication kickboards, and even communication tattoos.
Temporary Tattoos

- Search for “temporary tattoo paper” online
- Work with color inkjet printer
- Removable with baby oil
- Read instructions carefully – you may need to mirror images with print

Communication Tanks or Tees
- TIP:
- Search for iron-on “transfer paper” online or at craft stores
- Read instructions carefully – you may need to mirror images with print
- Use a plain white tee or tank

Kick Boards
- TIP:
- Visit the meat counter at the grocery store for free Styrofoam trays!
- Use waterproof glue (e.g., plumber’s glue)
