Dr. Jill Senner and Technology and Language Center (TALC) are crucial members of our care team. Our 25 year-old daughter has autism and severe apraxia and, as a result, is minimally verbal. Before she began working with Dr. Senner she had very limited expressive language and was reluctant to use her augmentative communication device. Dr. Senner trained our family and my daughter’s service providers, and she works with my daughter weekly. As a result of her expertise, guidance and skillful intervention, my daughter now uses her device routinely and independently! Even more impressively, she has become completely fluent with her talker and her expressive language has grown exponentially. She is now able to use her device effectively to engage in conversation, order food and make shopping lists. She has also made significant gains in comprehension, social interaction and oral communication. There is still much work to be done with my daughter, but we are extremely pleased with the progress she has made with Dr. Senner and our family highly recommends TALC for anyone who wants to leverage the power of technology to enhance the ability to communicate.

Since starting at the Technology & Language Center, Ava’s grown so much with the use of her communication device ! With the recent pandemic and switch to remote therapy sessions, her skills continue to soar! Dr. Senner has also supported us with our daughter’s educational needs, by attending IEP meetings and collaborating with her school team. Ava looks forward to her sessions each week and her AAC “share time”! We couldn’t be happier!
Our experience with Dr. Senner has been exceptional. She adapts her technical skills and research-based methods in communication to my son’s specific needs. Dr. Senner is persistent in identifying challenging communication issues and has implemented long-lasting, effective solutions that Avery has adopted. Furthermore, she doesn’t shy away from difficult problems, is very motivating, and is a great advocate for my son. Had we only had her expertise earlier, Avery would have made greater progress with his skills in understanding and expression through the utilization of an augmentative and alternative communication device.
My colleagues and I are attorneys who represent students with disabilities who are not receiving appropriate special education services. Technology and Language Center has changed the course of many clients’ lives by evaluating them and recommending appropriate AAC devices, then providing the families and school staff with the training to ensure appropriate support for the student’s use of the device. I will never forget the look on a parent’s face when she told me that her twelve year-old daughter picked out her own clothing for the first time ever using the device that Dr. Senner recommended.
During AAC mentoring sessions, Jill uses a collaborative process for problem solving clients and provides concrete examples and resources to support my practice. I can immediately implement given strategies into treatment and have had positive results with the individuals I serve.
Jill has been mentoring my colleagues and I for students on our caseloads that we need additional support with. She offers her expertise on challenging complex communicators by providing resources, feedback, and encouragement to help foster our clinical skills. We start the session by sharing information about our students along with a video. Jill provides thoughtful insight and encourages collaboration among the team in order to develop suggestions and solutions.
